The path into honors-level coursework at Sunny Hills — the foundation that carries into the IB Diploma Programme in junior and senior year.
Your application path depends on where your student attends school now. Collect the documents listed below, then complete the online application. Go to the application
For these students only, Sunny Hills is gathering all the information we need for admission directly from Fullerton School District or Buena Park School District. You do not need to complete the online application or upload report cards or test scores. We will send admission letters directly to families in December.
If only one is true, or neither is, you must apply using the steps below.
Not sure if you live in the attendance area? Check your address with the school locator.
Appeal process. There will also be an appeal process for students who want to take the SHHS Pre-IB pathway. Questions? Email the IB Coordinator at srosenkranz@fjuhsd.org.
The SHHS Pre-IB/Honors admission process.
The application form collects electronic versions of these two reports. Upload files in PDF, JPG, PNG, or DOC format. We are not taking physical copies this year.
For students whose home school is not Sunny Hills, or who are transferring from districts outside of Fullerton Joint Union, the first step for enrollment is to obtain an Intra/Inter District transfer permit from the high school of residence. Use the SHHS Pre-IB/Honors acceptance/qualifying letter to begin the transfer process. Once Sunny Hills has received the original copy of the permit and both schools have approved the transfer, the guidance office will contact families to pick up a registration packet to complete enrollment and class registration.
Students who attempt simultaneous enrollment with Sunny Hills and another high school will be disqualified from the 2027–2028 freshman class. If an acceptance offer has been extended, it will be rescinded and the student’s place forfeited. For questions about the permit process, call the guidance office at (714) 626-4208.
Accepted students complete the freshman and sophomore honors sequence. Students who start freshman year in Algebra 1 take geometry in summer school after freshman year to stay eligible for the IB math pathway. Continuation in the program is reviewed each semester, based on performance and teacher recommendation. In the spring of 10th grade, qualified students decide whether to pursue the full IB Diploma and meet with the IB Coordinator and their counselor to plan the two-year schedule. Learn about the Diploma Programme.
Complete one application for each student.
Reminder: Do not complete this application if your student both attends a Fullerton School District or Buena Park School District feeder school (such as Fisler, Parks, Nicolas, Beatty, or Buena Park Middle School) and lives in the SHHS attendance area. We will send your admission letter in December. See the note above.
